The parade of athletes is a big part of Special Olympics opening ceremonies. Families and friends sit in the stands and cheer, and Law Enforcement Officers line up to form a tunnel and greet every single athlete.
Some athletes and officers have formed bonds over the years and interactions range from high fives to hugs to taking photos of each other.
The purity of emotions and mutual respect for each other is very touching, and everybody genuinely cares for each other.
As one of the official photographers for Special Olympics New Jersey I have close access at events, and my penchant for wide angle lenses allows me to get very close to the emotions.
