Over the course of their lives, elephants will have six sets of teeth. Suzy is a very old elephant and she's worn through her last set. In order for her to be able to continue to eat, and therefore to live, her keepers feed her soft foods. In this photo she's eating watermelons that have just had the skins peeled off.

Suzy worked for many years in the Circus in India. She was rescued and brought to Wildlife SOS's Elephant Conservation and Care Center in Mathura India where she is now getting daily medical care for the wounds that she sustained during her past life. She is blind in both eyes, but she is paired with young mahouts for her daily walks because despite her major impediments, she is the fastest walker of any elephant in center.
